Does this get rid of the backfire screen too? How are flareups prevented?

Yes it removes the backfire screen.
Removing the backfire screen has been one of the most common modifications since the invention of the four stroke.

"Flare ups" are prevented by using proper filter maintenance techniques including non-petroleum based oils and solvents which may increase risk. The filters manufactured by Twin Air and No Toil are built with flame retardant foam. It's rare, but when you ever hear of someone's air filter catching on fire, its likely because they used gasoline, kerosene or paint thinner to clean it and were unable to completely remove these flammable chemicals.

Also, bad valves or possibly some other issue may be the cause of a flame to exist for several seconds before catching the foam on fire.

Ok, I'm not a YZ guy, but it would seem to me the 2012 is the same as the 2011, which is the same as the 2010...and isn't the 2009 and the 2008 pretty close too?

Cheap HP...I ordered mine today...and I don't even get a gaurantee :!

I ordered one a month or so, showed up in a week...put it on that night.... damn thing looks so sexy!!! Can't tell ya how it works yet #-o #-o Haven't rode the bike since it's been on

I needed new air filters anyway, so thought I would try it out. I was a little leary about the hose clamp holding on the filter, but it seems alright. I can already see it's going to make changing filters easier and quicker for sure!

Let me know what you think Pillow.... you'll probably ride before I do!

been running one now for 2 years on my 2010 zy250f...love it...don't know about 1.5 hp gain but did change the tune. swap filters with out being covered in belray filter oil...love it.

i have never found any dirt in the intake, and most of my riding is at our track that is sand and red clay that turns to red baby pouder when dried out, and never a problem with filters comming loose or dislodging. if you put a pipe on to improve folw then you need added flow on the intake an the loudmouth will do that for you, great product
