I'm waiting for a wrecked one to come up for under $1000, so I can shoehorn one of my spare CRF450 motors into it.

Nice, a 450 motor in one of those 125's would be awesome!
To the OP, the CBR 125's are the slowest thing I have ever riden. You will be board by your second lap. If youre interested in cheap road racing, look into SV650's. I think theres still a class for them, tires arent as bad as the bigger bikes, and crashing costs much less then full fairing bikes.

Buy an older nsr or rz350 and set it up for the track. Both are nimble as hell and have a decent amount of power. The SV cup is also a good series to get into as an amatuer.
